About the team

We are a passionate team of master students specializing in Food Technology and Biotechnology at Wageningen University & Research. Equipped with hands-on expertise in microbiology, protein extraction, and process design, combined with a solid scientific foundation, we are committed to transforming the future of food. Our mission is to revolutionize the global food system and pioneer solutions to sustain human life, both on Earth and in space. By empowering individuals to cultivate their own alternative proteins, we aim to ensure food security for all.

Our vision

As the global population continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly clear that current sources of protein, primarily animal-based, are unsustainable due to the impacts of climate change. Experts estimate that by 2050, the global protein supply will fall short of meeting humanity's dietary needs. At the same time, food waste remains a pressing issue. In 2022 alone, the world generated 1.05 billion tons of food waste, with households accounting for 60% of this total. The amount of organic waste produced annually is also expected to rise alongside population growth, further exacerbating this challenge. However, food waste represents a rich source of nutrients. With proper processing, it can be transformed into valuable resources, presenting an opportunity to address both the protein shortage and waste crisis. This scenario inspires the development of a groundbreaking system designed to tackle both issues simultaneously. Our vision is to enable individuals to farm protein in their own homes. We imagine a future where everyone can produce their sustainable protein anywhere, anytime, contributing to a healthier planet and a more secure food supply.

Our solution

Our solution is an innovative, convenient, and eco-friendly recycling system that harnesses a specialized pool of microorganisms to transform organic waste into a nutrient-rich culture medium for cultivating protein-dense microalgae. This unique product empowers consumers to grow and harvest their own protein source, directly addressing the need for accessible and sustainable food solutions. By focusing on the priorities of environmentally conscious consumers who value convenience and innovation, our system reimagines the current food landscape, paving the way for a more sustainable and self-sufficient future.
